Nursing Bras

Quality nursing bras should provide four important qualities: comfort, support, privacy, and convenience. The middle to late period of your pregnancy is a good time to educate yourself about the different nursing bra designs that are available. To help you with that process, we've put together some helpful facts about nursing bra styles and sizes.

Nursing bra styles

Many different types of bras are sold as nursing bras, but a true nursing bra features a flap on the cup. This flap should be easy to open and close with one hand, without having to look. Not only will this guarantee discretion, you'll be grateful for the convenience when you're holding your baby.

Some mothers enjoy the support that underwire nursing bras provide. However, we recommend avoiding underwire bras for the first few weeks after the birth. The underwire can obstruct your milk ducts. However, some large breasted women may require the extra support.

Nursing bra sizing

Breasts go through a lot of changes postpartum, so sizing can be difficult. For the first few weeks after the birth, you'll probably require a nursing bra that is one numerical size and one cup size larger than the bras you wore late in your pregnancy. Look for nursing bras with back hooks that can accommodate an increase or decrease in size. As your breast size reduces, you might consider switching to smaller underwire nursing bras for additional support.
